Women can benefit from stepping out of our comfort zone and getting out of ‘here’ from time to time. Amy Huang explains how traveling can help you find freedom in your life.
Another day.
You get up. Get dressed. Eat breakfast. Get to work. Finish work. Get home. Eat dinner. Sleep.
Like this, your life continues to cycle through a monolithic pattern, and you find that your mind becomes stale and your spirit dull.
Women can be weighed down by many expectations society imposes on us; some handle it better than others while many feel trapped in the cage that is their own world. Life stops being interesting, and we start to take things for granted.
It’s time to get out of here for a while.
It doesn’t have to be the ‘ultimate round the world’ trip that you have been dreaming about; it could be a drive up the coast or into the mountains; a weekend yoga health retreat; pamper yourself with a short stay in a luxury resort; get the bike out and cycle through the vineyards; or fly somewhere completely new and different.
Take yourself away from the norm, out of your comfort zone and feel the freedom away from home.
Others will tell you otherwise of course.
“Don’t go, it’s too dangerous out there” they all say, “you’ll never be able to survive it, why not just stay home?”
The thing is, the people who are telling you all these things, have too much fear of the unknown and the unfamiliar, and perhaps, they are jealous of the steps in life you are about to take.
Traveling is not just about taking a ‘holiday’. When we travel, we let go. We can rediscover our curious nature; we are more willing to take risks, to talk to strangers, eat new cuisines and to learn new ways of doing things.
In fact, traveling is like falling in love. Allow the experience to take over your emotions as you get to know the destination and explore all its differences and quirkiness.
Don’t be afraid of being different. Different is good. It’s through learning differences that we harvest new ideas, and it’s through combining the differences that we learn new ways and better methods to live our lives.
Meet other women and learn their stories. Learn not to take things for granted, and learn that despite cultural and religious differences, all the women in the world share a common dream: to be free.
After all, the world would be such a boring place if it were all the same.
So go.
