Winter in Europe and that means hitting the mountains spas.
You’ve been good all year, haven’t you? That’s what we thought. So it’s high time you treat yourself to a spa getaway. Here are three mountain resorts offering everything from luxury wellness treatments to holistic yoga.
1. St. Antoner Hof, Tyrol, Austria
This cosy ski village in Western Austria is an international hub for Alpine culture, and has succeeded in maintaining a rich local culture while catering to ski-obsessed visitors from all over the world.
One of the best hotels in town is Raffl’s, a five star resort and spa featuring an indoor pool, Finnish sauna and Turkish steam bath as well as a variety of treatments to choose from. Rooms are decorated with a mix of regional style and contemporary boutique design.
2. Sud Tyrol, Italy
Sud Tyrol in Northern Italy is home to many of the country’s best ski slopes and spas. Schgaguler, a four star resort nestled in the Dolomite, offers day excursions, spa treatments and local cuisine.
Neither is the use of local products confined to the dining room: one of the spa’s most popular treatments is the mud bath with hay, beer and Chardonnay. Not a bad way to treat yourself after a long day of Nordic walking or skiing.
Schgaguler offers deluxe and panorama suites with breakfast and dinner included.
3. Valle de Vida, Spain
Nestled in the Pizarra Mountains outside Malaga, Valle de Vida will please your inner hippy while meeting your needs for upscale accommodation.
What better way to kick off a post-holiday detox than sleeping in a deluxe tepee (complete with furniture and electricity, of course), practicing yoga and enjoying the relaxation of a steam room and hydrotherapy pool? The resort’s spa features a variety of treatments such as reflexology, osteopathy, hot stone massages and deluxe facials. There’s even an Indian head massage.
Valle de Vida’s chef (who has cooked for Madonna, by the way) is famous for preparing delicious meals free of gluten and sugar. So enjoy that last holiday cocktail while you still can.
